How to Determine if Rubber Pipe Fittings Are Well-Sealed

[[InfoAuthor]]

Determining if rubber pipe fittings are well-sealed requires a comprehensive evaluation from four dimensions: material selection, structural design, manufacturing process, and installation and maintenance. The core is to ensure that the rubber material possesses media resistance and aging resistance, has a reasonable structure, meets production process standards, and that on-site operation is standardized.

Material Selection: Finding the Right Fit
The foundation of sealing performance lies in whether the rubber material can adapt to the working environment:

Media Resistance Matching: For conveying oils, nitrile rubber (NBR) or fluororubber (FKM) should be selected; ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber is suitable for high-temperature steam or cooling water systems; fluororubber or PTFE composite linings must be used in environments with strong corrosive chemicals.

Aging Resistance and Resilience: High-quality rubber can still return to its original shape after long-term compression, with a low compression set (e.g., ≤20%), avoiding leaks due to hardening and cracking.

Hygiene and Safety Requirements: When used in drinking water systems, the material must pass the GB/T 17219 standard test to ensure it is non-toxic and non-polluting.

Structural Design: Assessing "Scientific Reliability"

A good structure enhances self-sealing capability and pressure resistance:

Reasonable Interface Type: When using flange connections, clamp-type, or socket-type structures, a sealing ring groove and limiting design should be included to prevent ring displacement or extrusion.

Reinforcement Layer Layout:Medium and high-pressure hoses require a steel wire braid or spiral layer to improve internal pressure resistance and prevent bulging and rupture.

Composite Sealing Structure: High-end applications can employ a combination design of O-rings + retaining rings, step seals, etc., to improve dynamic sealing reliability.
