How to Slow Down the Aging Rate of Rubber Hoses

The key to slowing down the aging rate of rubber hoses lies in controlling environmental exposure, using them scientifically, and maintaining them regularly. Systematic protection can effectively extend their service life.

Rubber hose aging is an irreversible process caused by a combination of factors, but targeted measures can significantly slow down its deterioration.

Control Environmental Exposure and Reduce External Corrosion

Avoid direct ultraviolet radiation: Long-term exposure to sunlight will accelerate the breakage of rubber molecular chains, leading to surface cracking. Rubber hoses should be installed in shaded areas or fitted with protective covers.

Keep away from high-temperature environments: For every 10°C increase in temperature, the oxidation reaction rate increases by approximately 2-3 times. Avoid proximity to heat sources (such as engines and heaters). Storage temperature should be controlled between 10–25°C.

Protect from moisture and water immersion: Humid environments easily extract water-soluble components from rubber, accelerating performance degradation. Avoid prolonged immersion or rain exposure; wipe dry after use before storage.

Standardize Usage to Reduce Physical and Chemical Damage

Prevent Excessive Bending and Stretching: During installation, the bending radius should not be less than 5 times the pipe diameter, and the stretching should not exceed 5% to avoid localized stress concentration and molecular chain breakage.

Avoid Contact with Corrosive Media: Strictly prohibit contact with strong acids, strong alkalis, oils, organic solvents, etc., as these substances can cause swelling, embrittlement, or chemical degradation.

Reduce Mechanical Friction and Vibration: Use clamps or supports when fixing pipelines to prevent damage to the outer layer due to long-term friction.

Scientific Maintenance and Chemical Protection

Regular Cleaning and Maintenance: Wipe the surface with a neutral detergent and a damp cloth to remove dust and dirt, preventing scale buildup and corrosion.

Use Rubber Conditioner: A special conditioner containing silicone oil, antioxidants, and plasticizers can be used. After application, it can penetrate and repair micro-damage, restore elasticity, and form a protective film.

Adding antioxidants: Adding antioxidants (such as phenols), anti-ozone agents (such as p-phenylenediamine), or ultraviolet absorbers to the rubber formulation can improve weather resistance at the material level.
