Description

4 Rubber Expansion Joint (PTFE Lined Rubber Expansion Joint)

Product Overview

The 4 Rubber Expansion Joint is a PTFE-lined twin-sphere rubber connector for corrosive or high-purity fluid pipelines. It is used in chemical plants, pharmaceutical production, electroplating, food processing, semiconductor utilities, and corrosion-control systems.

Core Advantages

1. Continuous food-grade PTFE wetted surface. The liner separates strong acids, strong alkalis, organic solvents, and high-purity fluids from the reinforced rubber carcass. In chemical, pharmaceutical, food, and semiconductor lines, the smooth PTFE bore blocks permeation into the elastomer and limits residue after draining.

2. Twin-sphere movement section. Two arches divide axial, lateral, and angular deformation across separate flexible zones. Where elevated temperature, thermal growth, and equipment vibration occur together, the twin profile absorbs greater combined movement than a short single sphere without forcing sharp strain into one arch.

3. Hybrid PTFE and elastomer pressure structure for -70 to +230°C and PN6 to PN16 service. The PTFE liner provides the chemical barrier while the EPDM or fluororubber outer body and reinforcement carry pressure and movement. This combination retains flexibility where an unlined elastomer would contact the process fluid directly.

Customization Capabilities

  • PTFE liner: Thickness, end flare, smooth-bore geometry, and continuity through the sealing face are built to the chemical service.
  • Outer body: EPDM or fluororubber, sphere dimensions, reinforcement, and installed length are matched to the pressure and movement.
  • Corrosion-resistant ends: PP, PE, FRPP, lined steel, or another approved flange material is produced to the required drilling standard.

Quality Control

PTFE sheet or molded liner material is checked for thickness, surface defects, and traceability before forming. Liner continuity, flange flare, and fit are inspected before the outer rubber structure is vulcanized. The completed bore is checked for folds, pinholes, exposed rubber, and trapped debris. Every joint receives water testing at 1.5 times design pressure and an air-tightness test at 1.1 times design pressure. Liner condition is re-inspected after testing.

FAQ

Q: How long does a custom PTFE-lined joint take?

A: Custom-made products normally require 40 to 50 days after the chemical medium, temperature, pressure, lining details, and flange drawing are approved.

Q: How is the PTFE sealing surface protected during shipping?

A: Rigid flange-face covers prevent indentation or scratching. The joint is wrapped separately and fixed so the liner cannot be folded or compressed by other items.

Q: Can it be used for every chemical?

A: No single material covers every chemical condition. The fluid, concentration, temperature, pressure, and cleaning media must be checked against PTFE and the selected outer rubber and flange materials.

Q: Can the twin spheres be compressed during installation?

A: Only within the installation tolerance shown on the drawing. Pre-compressing the joint to force pipe alignment reduces the movement available during operation.
